Positano, Italy Wedding | Silvia + Jason by Amanda Custo

Positano is, mildly put, a sensory overload. Colours are richer, people are more beautiful than anywhere you've ever been and the gelato...Mama Mia! The Gelato!

We spent a beautiful fortnight in this intriguing little town, named after the god of the seas, Poseidon, who mythically founded the town as a gift to a nymph (Italy is full of these almost too-good-to-be-true romantic tales and notions...but, just like the gelato, we lap it up eagerly and there is always place for more).

Silvia and Jason also fell in love with Positano and after a visit, decided to give up their big Jo'burg weddng idea and opt for an intimate event in Positano.
So the beautiful June day rolled around and everything felt like a fairytale...Silvia in her couture gown and Valentinos walking down ceramic-tiled streets, Vespas whizzing past, Italians shouting "Auguri!" and into the Santa Maria Assunta church towards Jason, boats bobbing around in the bay, visible through the open windows of the cathedral.

Silvia and Jason, you two make the most gorgeous couple and your calm joy is infectious! We loved spending a few days with you in Italy and hope that these images will live on in your family for generations.
Here are some of our favourite images.

Thank you 2016! Hello 2017! by Amanda Custo

We are writing this sitting at Starbucks and having their "ultimate festive season delight" - two Venti Gingerbread Lattes (with whipped cream, of course. Dieting can start again in the new year). Isn't it amazing how Starbucks markets their products though? Like these Gingerbread lattes - almost making their signature holiday coffee into a character of it's own with illustrations, it's own Instagram page (I kid you not) and creating huge hype around it waaaay before the holidays even start. All of us entrepreneurs have something to learn from, Starbucks!

But the actual reason Goshia and I are sitting at Starbucks poring over our laptops is because we are booking our tickets and stay in Positano, Italy. And in 2018, Mykonos beckons. It is just a testament of how "putting it out there to the universe" really does work. At the beginning of 2016, we listed our business goals and one of our top priorities was to grow our business (we since added a full-time videographer and editor to our team) and shoot more international weddings. We did a facebook post about the destinations where we had already shot weddings and then listed a few places we still wanted to shoot. (Number two of goal-making-got-to's is to be specific, right?! We don't only want a car, we want a Bentley!) Not too long afterwards, we booked a wedding in both Positano and Mykonos.

Like my dad always used to say: "the harder I work, the luckier I get..."

This year, one of our goals is to help other entrepreneurs, especially female entrepreneurs, to grow their businesses through successful marketing. One of the biggest challenges that female business owners face these days is burnout. We feel we need to do everything, be everywhere and still have enough time and energy to be successful wives/partners and moms. We have both been there and it has meant serious meltdowns! So 2017 will also mean better automation, less stress and more time to have fun and do what we most enjoy doing (which of course, includes shooting weddings).

So as the sun rises tomorrow, things will not be completely different than they were today, but also not exactly the same. It is so awesome, though, that as a society, we've decided to create and celebrate a time for new beginnings and a renewal of sorts.

Let this year bring only cheer and may you be indifferent to the things that make no difference.

Mauritius Wedding: Jenneke & Justin by Amanda Custo

Jen & Justin planned their beautiful Mauritius destination wedding from London, and what a celebration it was! 20 something of their closest friends and family descended on the island to witness this gorgeous couple tying the knot on the stunning white beaches of Shandrani Resort.

We had so much fun capturing their wedding, as well as the "Day-After" shoot in the water!

Shepstone Gardens wedding: Ursula + Kevin by Amanda Custo

When we arrived at Shepstone Gardens last Saturday morning (skies beautifully clear, a couple of white doves perched on the chapel steeple), we were told that "the weather is just too perfect...it will surely rain later on...".

But it didn't. And it stayed perfect.
We were so ridiculously excited about Ursula & Kevin's wedding, we were shaking with excitement (quite literally actually!) - not only by the dripping blooms from every ceiling beam and arch but by Ursula and Kevin's contagious excitement (and of course, Ursh's AMAZING wedding gown). Zavion, Lauren and the rest of the Zavion Kotze Events Company team was in top form arranging and decorating, while the crew of Zavion's TV show was filming their every move.
We feel blessed to have been part of such an awe-inspiring production!

Sorrento, Italy Wedding: Sabrina + Agnello by Amanda Custo

To say that we'd been looking forward to Sabrina & Agnello's wedding in Italy is just a horrible understatement...we were counting down a year, then months and then finally it was just a few weeks away...

Sometimes, when your expectations of a place are so overwhelming, it very often turns out to be disappointing when one actually gets there. Take Paris, for example - there is so much excitement...one dreams, conjures, pictures seeing the Eiffel tower, the Louvre, the Arc de Triomphe for the first time (no pressure Paris!). Sometimes the expectations are met and other times it is less than expected, or just different.

Our expectations and experience of Sorrento? Unequalled! The food, the people, the atmosphere. It was what we dreamed and so much more. Sabrina and Agnello's wedding topped off our time on the Amalfi coast and I think everyone involved felt that this was something so incredibly special and a once-in-a-lifetime. If only time could be stopped we would have that beautiful Saturday afternoon, a vision of a regal-looking bride, a breathtaking cathedral, palace venue against the coastal cliffs and a feast fit for a king over and over again...

Cathedral Peak Wedding: Nicolette + Darren by Amanda Custo

Nicci and Darren's wedding was one of our favourites of last year! Although they are both very busy professionals and we only met them at their rehearsal cocktail party the evening before the wedding, we immediately felt a rapport with the couple and their awesome group of friends.

The surroundings (cue: the Sound of Music soundtrack) are mesmerising and any photographers' dream...not to mention such a gorgeous bride and dashing groom. We had the best time being flown into the mountains for their couple shoot (even though the windy conditions made the helicopter flight on the nerve-wrecking side...).

Thanks to Nicci and Darren for allowing us to share their gorgeous day!

Former Miss SA Nicole Flint marries David van Heerden by Amanda Custo

Our first meeting with Nicole was at the Palazzo hotel for coffee one morning early last year. It was the perfect setting: this gorgeous woman in regal surrounds - looking like it was all made for her.

Then, she opened her mouth. Magical smile, relaxed laugh - absolutely dazzling - not by her beauty only, but by her warmth. Nicole Flint must be the most down to earth, "real" and just genuinely nice celebrities that we've ever met and had the pleasure of working with. You look,  look again, and listen and every time you just love her more!

We are sure that her handsome husband, David, fell for this side of Nicole, and although we only met him on the wedding day itself, he also made us feel like we'd known each other for years.

David and Nicole's stunning country-style wedding took place at Cranford Country Lodge in the Kwazulu-Natal Midlands. We arrived on a chilly and foggy Friday afternoon, but the next day the weather couldn't have been more perfect - bright and sunny with a cool breeze blowing. Like it was ordered!

Nicole looked absolutely breathtaking (as if anything else was possible) thanks to Sam Scarborough that did the make-up, Gail Glemius the hair and the show-stopping dress by Anel Botha Couture.

We worked alongside Top Billing and Bravo & Thatcher on the day that filmed the wedding.

Eve of the Splendid Wedding Company was responsible for the gorgeous flowers and décor (we especially loved Nicole's stylishly loose, country chic bouquet!)

Lastly, we would like to thank AtPhoto for sponsoring Nicole & David's leather wedding album - here is a little clip of them picking it up at the studio:
